“In The Belly of the Fail Whale” Book Tour

31 Cities in 33 Days Across the US

Los Angeles, CA: Saturday, July 24, 2010 –  Local Author Rob Gokee (known for his “pantsless” jokes – see attached cover of the book) released, “In The Belly Of The Fail Whale: How Twitter Changed My Life In One Year,” this year which is about the effect social media had on his life and career over the course of a year. Rob’s life took a 180 degree turn thanks to the people he’s met through social media; now he wants to give some of that positive change back. The “Fail Whale Book Tour” is an opportunity for Rob (www.robgokee.com) to travel the country and experience social media in action.  Rob (@robgokee / @FailWhaleBook) has over 3,500 Twitter followers; his plan is to meet as many of them as he can.  His partner on the trek is Producer / Social Media Strategist Allison Vanore (@alliecine / @NewCityAllison),, Rob’s other half, who he met on Twitter (heralded as the “Twitter Power Couple” by followers – watch out Ashton and Demi!) and plays a prominent role in the first book. For a map / list of cities the book tour will include, go to http://newcityentertainment.com/resources/fail-whale-book-tour/.

The tour is about promoting Rob’s book through panels and local signing events, while connecting IRL (In Real Life) with the people that have influenced his life the most. The tour kicks off with Rob and Allison leaving Los Angeles, CA on August 31.  They’ll hit 30 cities before returning for an event in Long Beach, CA on Oct. 2nd at Apostrophe Books.  During the tour Rob plans on meeting and interviewing the people that “follow” him on Twitter about how social media has affected them in what they do and who they are.  So far, 81 Twitter followers in the noted cities plan to “TweetUp” with Rob and Allison. The tour itself and interviews are the basis of Rob’s second book, which will be about how social media and real life intersect.  Rob hopes that his next book will bridge the connection between social media and real life.

Journalist/Author Liz Grover comments: “This is not just a how-to book, it’s a very personal and raw spilling of guts and emotion. I applaud Rob for being so personal. Not everyone can share their private life–the ups and downs–in a book or on Twitter like he has. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll probably want to give Rob a hug for what he went through (and buy him some pants) if you ever meet him in person.”

Gokee comments: “I think that as long as Twitter can morph and grow with the world, it’ll remain viable & retain its audience. Like anything internet related, it has a life span, but I think that it’s still in the early stages of popularity. A lot of people try Twitter & don’t understand it, so they abandon it quickly. I’m hoping my book can show them one person’s method of networking and how it can broaden your life.”
