ASJA SoCal Social Media Panel – A Successful and Fun Night!

July 22nd 2010 -

From Left: Penny Sanseviere, Rob Gokee, Tina Tessina, Moderator: Kathy Sena, Cherie Twohy, Meredith Resnick

With a sold out crowd overflowing into other areas of Pages: a bookstore, I think we can deem the night a huge success!

Missed it?  Well here’s a brief rundown of what the panelists had to say:

Rob Gokee (“In the Belly of the Fail Whale“) spoke about being genuine and finding your voice.  He spoke about how his transition into writing stemmed from using social media to promote his career as a music composer and how marketing himself in the entertainment industry is very different than marketing himself as an author.

Meredith Resnick (“The Writer’s Inner Journey“) spoke about how she came to blogging and what it has developed into over the years.  She found her voice and her place by interviewing and blogging about those in her industry.  This has opened the door for her to speak with and learn from those individuals she would never have been in contact with otherwise.

Tina Tessinna (known as Dr. Romance) spoke about time management and shortcuts she uses to get the social media job done while working a full time job and writing 13 books!

Penny Sanseviere (CEO of Author Marketing Experts) spoke about what your audience wants,  in-bound links, website content and the importance of collecting subscriptions to your newsletter by offering something to your audience that they want.

Cherie Mercer Twohy (“I Love Trader Joe’s Cookbook“) spoke about how she got into cooking and developed her cooking classes.  She told us that in visiting blogs and sites that were relevant to her work she was actually leaving her name and information across the web.  This is what increased her visibility online and enabled a publisher to find her and in turn, offer Cherie her first book deal!

Moderator, Kathy Sena (Parent Talk Today & Consumer Reports on Twitter) was lovely as always as our moderator.  As an active social media professional she was able to bring such a wonderful group of people together for an informative and entertaining night.

WOW, Allison! Everyone involved will be thrilled with this fantastic synopsis of the evening, complete with great pics! You are such a pro, and so generous with the credit and links for everyone. I’ll be sure to share this on SM and with the owners of Pages and Beckers. You rock! Thanks so much. (And it was great that you joined us for dinner before the panel! that was fun.)

  3. Tina Tessina, LMFT, PhD "Dr. Romance" Says:

Allison, you rock! What a great article, and thanks for doing it — I’m posting a link on the ASJA website.

  4. Rob Gokee Says:

I think it’s safe to say that this panel was the most fun I’ve had since releasing my book. The other speakers were so fun to be around, and so inspiring. Pages did a wonderful job hosting, and none of this would have been possible without Kathy Sena and the ASJA, who are both invaluable and irreplaceable. I’m looking forward to getting to know the other panelists better.
