A Parent’s Guide to Social Media

New City recognizes the ever-growing community of young social media users as well as the somewhat staggering gap in knowledge between them and their parents. It’s completely understandable that Gen X, Y, and Z are, in many ways, vastly different in their abilities and perception when it comes to new technology and media.  Additionally, it is obvious from our standpoint that this can be risky business.  See: Issues Facing Youth and Social Media.

For this reason, New City has opened our doors to parents and guardians who want some insight into the world of their teenagers.  Our goal is to provide a better understanding of the mediums and networks out there in order for parents to teach their children the right etiquette and the implications of what they do.  Our hope is that with your expanded knowledge comes a communication between parent and child that enables trust.  This trust allows a teenager to retain their ability to exist in these networks without strict supervision.  However, we will also provide the information to parents to help them monitor their childrens’ online presence – because, let’s face it, they are still children.

This comprehensive seminar includes 2 hours of social media explanation, review, and recommendations for you as a parent. The locations vary so that we remain accessible to as many people as possible. (New City is available for private consultation as well if desired.)

Upcoming Seminar Dates:

Abbreviated Seminar at John Burroughs Middle School: April 28, 2010

If you would like us to visit your area, contact us and we will set it up! We will contact local schools and organizations to build a class of at least 20 parents at a local venue.  If you already have interest through your PTA or any association or organization please let us know!

Have comments or feedback after your seminar?  We would love to hear it!
