Brigid Manning LaBonge
City Council & Parent Advisor
Brigid Manning LaBonge was born in Pasadena, California the 7th of 8 children. She graduated from St. Andrews High School, earned her art degree from Pasadena City College and went directly to work in the family printing business.
Brigid went on to work in advertising and as a free-lance graphic designer for 25 years, managing clients as diverse as the Walt Disney Co. and The United Way of Greater Los Angeles. In that time, she left corporate design to focus on serving the design needs of non-profit entities such as Homeboy Industries, the Good Shepherd Center and the Union Station Foundation, among others.
Brigid has been a strong advocate for public education in Los Angeles for the past five years, having served as president of Friends of Ivanhoe Elementary School, which her children attended. She was recently the subject of a profile by popular Los Angeles Times columnist Steve Lopez. As an outgrowth of that work, Brigid now serves as a volunteer Education Deputy for her husband Councilmember Tom LaBonge. Her main focus is to assist public schools in finding a variety of resources for enrichment of curriculum and helping parents get mobilized and active in their childrens’ schools.
Brigid is also on the Advisory Board of New City Parents, a group studying the affects of social media on children. She recently chaired the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Griffith Park. She is the mother of two children, Mary-Cate (16) and Charles (12).
