Author Rob Gokee’s book, “In The Belly Of The Fail Whale: How Twitter Changed My Life In One Year,” is about the effect social media had on his life and career over the course of a year. Rob’s life took a 180 degree turn thanks to the people he’s met through social media; now he wants to give some of that positive change back. The “Fail Whale Book Tour” is an opportunity for Rob to travel the country and experience social media in action. Rob (@robgokee / @FailWhaleBook) has over 3,500 Twitter followers; his plan is to meet as many of them as he can. His partner on the trek is Producer / Social Media Strategist Allison Vanore (@alliecine / @NewCityAllison), Rob’s other half, who he met on Twitter & plays a prominent role in the first book. Allison will be handling the PR & marketing aspects of the tour as part of New City Social. Her partner Jillian Gilbert (@NewCityJillian) will be handling logistics from their Los Angeles office. The tour is about promoting Rob’s book through panels and local signing events, while connecting IRL (In Real Life) with the people that have influenced his life the most. Rob plans on meeting and interviewing the people that “follow” him on Twitter about how social media has affected them in what they do and who they are. The tour itself and interviews are the basis of Rob’s second book, which will be about how social media and real life intersect. Rob hopes that his next book will bridge the connection between social media and real life.
